Our Services
 
The advocacy assistance, emotional/practical support services we provide are essential for women in our community. 
 
These support services include but are not limited to:
  • Provide information to women about local community resources
  • Provide information on their rights
  • We have information in various languages
  • Assist women to access resources and services through referrals and information and advocacy
  • Provide emergency bus tickets
  • We are a referral agency for the Emergency Dental Clinic, and Rainbow of Opportunities
  • Computer access, telephone, fax and photocopy
  • Community Volunteer Income Tax Preparation
  • Assist women to fill out various forms
  • Download information that is only be available on the internet
  • We have feminine hygiene  products
  • We have coffee
  • Bulletin board with job information
  • Emotional support
 
Consults/Advocacy
 
  • We provide crisis emotional support to women in person and on the phone
  • We provide consults to assess the various issues that are impacting a woman and assist her to determine her next steps and to make appropriate referrals if possible or to simply provide a listening ear
  • We provide practical/advocacy support with helping them through the various systems impacting their lives
  • We assist them to apply for disability benefits
  • We assist them to apply for arbritration through Residential Tenancy Act
 
Our Community Education work includes:
  • Bi-Monthly Newsletter which is used as an educational tool as well as to inform the community of the resources for women in the community
  • We have hosted several information Sessions regarding ChildCare, income assistance, affordable housing needs
  • Annual Public Awareness Events, such as December 6th Vigil, International Women’s Day, Violence Prevention Week and the Supporting Families with Parental Mental Illness Forum
  • Volunteer opportunities and training to enhance and develop marketable skills as well as post-secondary practicum opportunities and training. 
 
The Kelowna Women’s Resource Centre is a leader in this community in creating, developing and maintaining cooperative, collaborative relationships in this community to reduce gaps and address the issues impacting women.  As part of our commitment to women in Kelowna, we actively participate on a few community committees to ensure women’s needs and concerns are addressed. 
These include:
  • The Kelowna Violence Against Women in Relationships Committee
  • Poverty and Homelessness Action Team of the Central Okanagan
  • The Advisory Committee on Community & Women’s Issues

What We Can Do For You

We give you the opportunity to meet and network with other women locally, provincially and nationally.

We can provide resources and reading materials on income assistance, employment standards, childbirth, sexuality, birth control, health, child development, child abuse, day care education, pornography, lesbian issues, politics, sexual harassment and abuse, affirmative action, pensions, pay equity, marriage, divorce and much more.

We can provide a supportive environment for lobbying, public speaking, computer skills, letter writing, organizing events, and making formal presentations.
